Go on, Spoil Your Mum This Mother’s Day!

We all want to treat our mums this Mother’s Day, but choosing the perfect pressie can be tricky. Don’t fret, with Angela Poplett, Lakeside Shopping Centre’s resident personal shopper, on hand, shopping has never been so easy.

Angela says:
Buying a gift for Mother’s Day can be really difficult but don’t worry, it’s not about how much you spend, but how much thought you put into it. You’ll know your mum better than probably any other person, so think about what means a lot to her and you’ll be halfway there.

If you’re looking for a really special treat, Lakeside’s a great place to start. There are nearly 300 shops, so you’re sure to find inspiration. If she has a signature scent, how about treating her to a new bottle from The Perfume Store, and maybe add a selection of other products in the range? Or, if she loves nothing better than entertaining the family, how about giving her a kitchen classic, such as the Kenwood Chef? There’s a great range of homewares available at House of Fraser so you’re sure to find something she’ll love.

Personally, I love nothing better than picking out a fantastic outfit for my mum, something that makes her feel like the special person she is. Of course, every mum is different, but there are a couple of rules to follow when you’re buying clothing for someone else – follow these and you can’t go wrong:

  1. Put yourself in your mum’s shoes. You may want to give her something that’s really fashionable, but if it doesn’t suit her personality or sense of style she’ll never wear it. The best way to get an idea of what she’ll like is to have a sneaky peak in her wardrobe and look at the kind of styles and colours she already wears, and this way you’ll get an idea of what she feels comfortable in. This is particularly important if you’re planning to buy her a single item – there’s no point buying her a lovely top if she hasn’t got anything that will go with it.
  2. Think carefully about where you shop. There are loads of really lovely things around at the moment but what suits a mum in her thirties is unlikely to suit someone in their sixties, and vice versa. Wallis and Principles are great for women in their forties and fifties, while Debenhams and House of Fraser have a great selection of brands, such as Jacques Vert at Debenhams, which offer stylish designs for more mature mums.

Lakeside also offers a fantastic range of personal shopping experiences to suit every budget – afterall, who wouldn’t love the chance to go shopping with their own personal style adviser! If you’re feeling really generous, you can throw in some Lakeside gift vouchers too – they can be used at almost 300 stores in the shopping centre, making it the perfect treat for your mum.
