November Christmas Party Fashions - November Issue
The Ultimate LBD
The festive season is fast approaching and it’s time to start planning your Christmas party wardrobe. There are many key looks that work this party season, but there is one absolute essential that is sure to never let a girl down – the little black dress! Lakeside’s Personal Shopper, Angela Poplett, is here with her guide to the ultimate ‘LBD’.
The LBD is not only a flattering classic but also demure and sexy. Each year designers add to their collections and bring out new versions of the LBD and this Winter is all about detail. Embellished necklines and hems are a way to bring individuality to your dress. Some of the best of these include Warehouse’s short black dress, which has a very low-slung sexy back and silver sequins along the neck line, and Wallis’ knee length Georgette dress with black pearl detailing around the neck. Both of these dresses have added a jewelled modern twist to the standard black dress making it eye catching and sparkling.
If keeping things simple is key to your look then try embellishing a simple black shift dress with some fashionable accessories. Team your shift dress with a black patent belt around your waist, like the one from Warehouse at Lakeside, plus a pair of opaque tights and black leather boots. Head to French Connection for a great selection of heeled black boots, or if you’re feeling bold try Evans’ knee high boots which will bring an on-trend touch of dominatrix to your look!
If you’re looking for the ultimate party outfit, complete your look with a pair of gold or silver shoes. To make sure your sparkling shoes are up to date choose a pair that are either peep toe or snake skin. Next at Lakeside has a fabulous pair of faux snakeskin shoes in their Christmas range - team them with a black dress of any length and they will give added confidence to all party girls. Alternatively, try Jasper Conran at Debenhams’ silver peep toe shoes for an equally sexy and alluring finish!
One of the best things about dressing in black is that it is suitable for any body shape. Black is the most flattering colour you can wear as it creates a silhouette and disguises any unwanted lumps and bumps! If you do go for an outfit totally in black, remember to use light reflecting make-up if you have pale skin. Also, simple make-up is best, particularly if your outfit contains lots of detail and leather. Use kohl eye-liner to add an air of mystery to your look and, rather than a bold lipstick, try a slick lip gloss. Go to any of the cosmetics stands in House of Fraser at Lakeside - a favourite of mine is Clarins Colour Quench Lip Balm.
